POSTCARDS FROM MARS IS AN ALTERNATIVE INDIE FOLK BAND BASED AROUND DUTCH PRODUCER AND COMPOSER BART VAN DALEN.
The first Postcards From Mars song was born on a meadow, in the early summer of 2011. Starting as a side project, Bart wrote and self-released 4 digital EP’s. When it was time to grow his project into something more tangible, Bart decided to work with a small team of creative friends and musicians to independently record and release the Postcards From Mars debut album 'GROWTH' in April 2016.
‘GROWTH’ was released exclusively on 12” vinyl. The album features a collection of personal songs about growing older, longing to travel and choosing who you want to be in life. Challenging himself to explore unknown territories with his guitar and writing songs along the way has been the main drive behind the songs and has greatly influenced the sound. The album received several loving press reviews and singles 'Breathe' and 'Into The Unknown' received over 200.000 hits on YouTube and Spotify. ‘Breathe' was also featured in an advertising campaign for JEEP.
Postcards From Mars' sound can be described as a mixture of Patrick Watson, Paul Simon and Death Cab For Cutie. Bart dreams to take his music abroad and play for an international audience. In 2016, this became a reality when Bart was asked to perform his songs at the New York Fashion Week show of Amsterdam brand Scotch & Soda.
For live performances, Bart teams up with several talented musicians and friends. A 5-piece band now accompanies Bart on stage to translate the moody arrangements into an energetic live set. A tour throughout the Netherlands with 16 Popronde shows, a show on Amsterdam Woods Festival and a couple of nice support shows (Mister & Mississippi, Rue Royale, Mutual Benefit, Holy Holy) followed.
